Great start to Heritage Week in Donegal

National Heritage Week got off to a great start in Donegal this weekend with events taking place throughout the entire county.  From walks along the community restored railway walk in Dungloe to talks on the conservation of Teach Mhicí Mhic Gabhann to entertainment at Granny Kates Thatched Cottage at Glengesh near Ardara, the opening weekend of the 2016 Heritage Week in Donegal was a great success. Pictured at Dungloe Road Station on the community-restored railway walk are local historian and author Patrick Boner and some of the walk participants.  Patrick led a walk along the 5-kilometre route from Burtonport to Meenbanad as part of National Heritage Week on Saturday, August 20.

Some of the people who attended the Family Open Day at Donegal Parish Church of Ireland in Donegal Town on Sunday, August 21 where there were artefacts and archives on display, a treasure hunt for people of all ages and some visitors got the opportunity to ring the church bell.
